Just a few of the many things to do while visiting White Pine County

  • Take a walking tour and see the murals of historic downtown Ely. See our unique, historic, hand-painted murals of pioneer families, children, mining and ranching scenes and a Native American sculpture.
  • We have many opportunities to shop and gamble in Ely. Then visit special craft and antique shops in East Ely, McGill, Lund and Baker.— Take a ride back in time on the Nevada Northern Railway.
  • Visit the White Pine Public Museum or the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Ely, McGill’s Drugstore Museum, Lund’s Pioneer Museum, or the Cherry Creek Museum.
  • Stop in for an old-fashioned soda at one of our drugstores.
  • Have a picnic at the County Park and feed the ducks.
  • Go to a race at the Great Basin Speedway.
  • Trace the Nevada section of the historic Lincoln Highway in Ely and along US Highway 50.
  • Attend one of our many special summer events including car shows, fairs, glider races, old-fashioned 4th of July parades, the Lund Pioneer Days Rodeo, the Native American Fandango, dances, barbeques and more.
  • Enjoy the Ward Mountain Recreation Area at Murray Summit and hike the trails.
  • Visit the Ward Charcoal Oven State Park.
  • Visit the Great Basin National Park and take a tour of the famous Lehman Caves. Along the way visit the Fremont Archeology Site near Baker.
  • Fish and camp at Cave Lake or fish at Comin’s Lake. Ask about dozens of other special camping areas.
  • Swim in McGill’s spring-fed pool (summer only).
  • Take a ride into the desert and look for garnet gems at Garnet Hill. Visit Hercules Gap north of Ely.
  • Visit the historic mining town of Ruth, or visit a real mining ghost town like Osceola (50 miles east of Ely).
  • Play golf at the 18-hole White Pine Golf Course, or play tennis on the courts nearby.
  • Take a drive and photograph or view the wildlife and nature through the mountains south and east of Ely over scenic Success Loop. There are elk, deer, antelope, rabbits, and much more.
  • Hike mountain trails to alpine lakes, go on a trail ride, or stay at a dude ranch.
  • Pick up a guide for US Hwy 93 or a “Survival Kit” for US Hwy 50 (the Loneliest Highway) to make your trip even better.
  • Enjoy the great food (American, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, and more) in our area restaurants.
