Things to see and do in White Pine County

Take a trip through downtown Ely to shop and gamble.

Spend time at a variety of craft and antique shops in Ely, McGill, Lund, Ruth and Baker.

Get a glimpse of living history at the Nevada Northern Railway, located in Ely

Follow the Nevada section of the historical Lincoln Highway and U.S. Highway 50.

Take a look at unique, hand-painted murals.

Need a break? Stop for an old-fashioned soda at our local pharmacy.

Visit museums in Ely, McGill, Lund and Cherry Creek, including the White Pine County Public Museum, the McGill Historical Drugstore, Lund’s Pioneer Museum and the Cherry Creek Museum.

Visit the Renaissance Village. The village is made up of 12 shotgun houses and a barn that actually look like they came straight out of Ely’s Old West days. The houses in the village actually act like a museum and visitors are allowed to go in and check them out.

Feed ducks at the pond at the White Pine County Park.

Visit the Ward Mountain Recreation Area and embark on scenic hikes.

Fish and camp at Comins Lake or at one of dozens of other special camping areas.

Take a swim at the McGill pool, which is fed by a natural spring, or the Aquatic Center indoor pool.

Check out the historic mining towns of Ruth. Also, see a real mining ghost town at Hamilton, Belmont, Treasure Hill or Osceola, Lane City, Taylor, or Ward.

Work on your swing and play a full 18-hole round of golf at the White Pine Golf and Tennis Club.

Stop at any number of places for photo opportunities of wildlife.

Great Basin National Park Whether visiting for a day or week, Great Basin National Park is only an hour drive from Ely. Take in the majesty of Mount Wheeler, tour the Lehman Caves and enjoy lunch in Baker, Nevada.

Ward Charcoal Ovens The Ward Charcoal Ovens served diverse purposes after their function ended as ovens used to process silver ore from 1876-1879. The campground area is located in the nearby cedar trees with hiking, biking and ATV trails leading out in several directions.

Garnet Hill Recreation Area. Are you a rock hound? Maybe you like to search for gems and garnets. These minerals can be found with a sharp eye, or a pick ax. Enjoy an afternoon, bring a picnic basket along and enjoy the view while searching for your own treasured souvenir.

Tears Fears and Beers The oldest Enduro race in the country sets cyclists pedaling off the top of a mountain where they are timed at specific sections of the course. Then it’s down twisty downhills and sprints, where the sum of the times will determine the winner.

Art Bank A permanent collection of art, sculptures and photos are on display at the Art Bank and Cultural Center. Local artists’ work is on display and for sale. Periodic travel art exhibits are featured throughout the year.

Success Loop Scenic Route Generally accessible from late April to mid-November this 33 mile loop is one of the most scenic and photographed areas of White Pine. The rugged canyons, steep mountains and forested highlands. High-clearance vehicles are suggested

Silver State Classic Car Challenge Catch a car show with most of the cars featured in an open road race from Ely to Las Vegas, and sometimes back. The race is open to anyone who is brave enough, and has a fast car.
