The Nevada Northern Railway Iron Horse Symposium

This four-day event offers railfans and history enthusiasts a chance to participate in hands-on railway adventures, including exclusive presentations, guided tours, train rides, and archive discoveries focused on the history of the Nevada Northern Railway. This year's symposium will highlight the railroad's involvement in World War I, the 1920s mill fire, and steam operations, and will also feature the inaugural Nevada Northern Railway Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The War to End All Wars had a profound impact on the railroad creating a growth spurt during the war and then a depression once the war ended. Just when things were getting back together the mill and smelter burned down in McGill. Losing the mill and smelter could have brought about the end of the copper dream and the Nevada Northern Railway. Yet, the railroad, mine, mill and smelter jumped back to life. Join us as we examine this turbulent period of history:
- Tour of McGill to Ely to Ruth following the route of the railroad.
- Special train rides on both branches of the railroad.
- Presentations on the McGill Fire.
- Resurrection of Locomotive 81.
- Development and Use of Archives as related to the Nevada Northern Railway.
- And the inaugural Nevada Northern Railway Hall of Fame induction ceremony. In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the Nevada Northern Railway Foundation, 40 honorees who had a profound impact on the Nevada Northern Railway will be inducted in our Hall of Fame.
